Net metering allows your on-grid solar system to export surplus electricity back to the TNEB grid, and you receive credits that offset your future bills. When your solar generates more than you use (typically during midday), the excess goes to the grid. At night or on cloudy days, you draw from the grid, and your bill reflects the net difference. S.G. Energy handles the document preparation and submission for net metering with TNEB on your behalf.

On-grid systems shut down automatically during grid outages — this is a safety requirement to prevent backfeeding and protect TNEB linesmen. If backup power during outages is important to you, we recommend a hybrid system with battery storage. We'll help you assess whether the additional cost is justified for your situation.

Most residential installations in Chennai pay back within 3–5 years, depending on system size, your current tariff slab, and how much of the generation you self-consume. Government subsidy schemes for residential solar (PM Surya Ghar and state schemes) have specific eligibility criteria and empanelment requirements.
